Heard the last of Nokia? Think again the Nokia TV is here

Nokia I hear you say, isn’t that a old phone manufacturer? Well yes it was known for that, however since the modern smartphone Nokia has struggled to keep up.

Now they are branching out, or re-branding, you could say. It is licencing it’s name to third party retailers.

Indian company Flipkart has been granted the use of the brand name for it’s smart televisions, “a global first for the brand in the TV category,”, said Flipchart, which is a major e-commerce retailer in the country.

VP of Nokia brand partnerships, Vipul Mehrotra, Flipkart’s went on to say, “Flipkart’s understanding of the needs and behaviors of Indian consumers, and the power of its reach, will help it make Nokia branded smart TVs accessible and affordable.”

If the company produces a television as good as expected, this could be a major player in the sector and bring Nokia back from the brink.

We haven’t heard huge news from Nokia since the Nokia 8 smartphone, however if this works what could the next step be, and could we once again see a Nokia in every household?

The 55-inch Nokia Ultra HD (4K) LED Smart Android TV will include two 24-watt speakers as part of a sound system from JBL by Harman (another partnership arrangement).

Flipkart do say though that despite the OS being Android, they will not publicize this to users.

16:9 display with a 60Hz refresh rate, support for Dolby Vision and HDR10, three HDMI ports, and two USB ports.

Available on the 10th of December in India for 41,999 rupees, which is roughly £449, so well priced for a smart TV.
