An abandoned cargo ship is in the Atlantic on fire with 3,965 Volkswagen group cars on board 1,100 of these are Porsche sports cars.
The ship currently in this predicament is called the Felicity Ace and is estimated to be the size of 2 millennium stadiums.
Although the value of the loss in the ship itself is high, so may be the vehicles lost, due to the Volkswagen group owning expensive brands such as Porsche, Lamborghini, Bugatti and Bentley.
The cargo ship was on route to Rhode Island from Germany when distress signals echoed radios on Wednesday morning last week.
There was a fire on one of the cargo decks, which led to evacuation, fortunately all members of the crew escaped unscathed.
Although the owner of the vessel is underway in plans for recovery of the cargo and the ship itself, thy will have some trouble overcoming the intensity of the fire, cause by the electric and hybrid vehicles on board.
The incident is not the first of its kind nor will it be the last, however it does raise concerns due to the current chip shortages that have threatened the market since the pandemic.
