Surprising release news left the doors of Apple today, with the announcement of a new iPod Touch.
It’s been quite a few years since the last update of the Touch and its causing some hysterical reactions from the marketplace.
It will be the cheapest way to have a device running the IOS operating system, but do mp3 or mp4 players have a place in the world anymore?
The new iPod will go on sale at around £199 and comes with the same A10 chip as was seen on the iPhone 7. Still it costs a awful lot less then the most up to date XR, XS and XS max handsets. However; with the Touch you will need a wifi connection to actually connect to the internet, as there is no sim card slot (probably cause it’s not a phone.)
So why have Apple released a Touch again in a market which is saturated with smartphones? Well the Touch has been hailed as a great device for music lovers as well as gamers. It’s the first iPod to feature augmented reality (AR) technology and Group FaceTime.
Twitter, however has been alight with tech fans questioning the move, just as we are. What is the purpose of the device when a half decent smartphone can be picked up for pretty much the same price.
“We’re making the most affordable iOS device even better with performance that is twice as fast as before, group FaceTime and augmented reality starting at just $199.
The ultra-thin and lightweight design of iPod touch has always made it ideal for enjoying games, music and so much more wherever you go.” – Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of product marketing.
The new iPod touch will cost £199 for the 32GB model, £299 for the 128GB model and £399 for the 256GB model.
Why not see if an affordable new phone might be money better spent?
