BMW i8 roadster at the Formula E, bet you didn’t see that coming

This year marks an exciting reveal for BMW, in its i8 roadster, a convertible version of the much discussed coupe. But, is it right to be leading the pack at the Formula E circuit?

Well Formula E have always used an i8 as their official safety car. However, until now they have all been coupes, so how does this new 2019 hybrid yellow flag initiator compare?
Quite well, you will be pleased to hear.

With a combined electric/gasoline power output now at 374 hp, not quite supercar high but enough to get the 0-60 mph benchmark done in a claimed 4.4-seconds, (4.2 for the Coupe). Fuel economy is a claimed 60 mpg for both models.

It is also the first safety car which can be used without a roof, not too much dissimilar to A View To A Kill, 1985.

BMW say it’s the roadster, but it isn’t quite, with a lowered windshield reminiscent of the Porsche Speedsters of the past and plenty of other tasty changes.

These include a front splitter, massive rear wing, twin roll hoops a light bar, ceramic brakes and 15mm height removed. Let’s get these on the road alongside the new i8, I know it arouses my interest, what are your thoughts on it?
