booby-traps and Apple snaps…

Google researchers have claimed to find booby-trapped websites which have been attacking iPhones and installing “monitoring Implants”.

Able to hide on malicious software the monitoring implant is able to view images, contacts and other information.

Ian Beer who works on Google’s Project Zero, has said in a blog post that thousands of visitors have visited the sites each week.

“There was no target discrimination; simply visiting the hacked site was enough for the exploit server to attack your device, and if it was successful, to install a monitoring implant.’”

Project Zero is Google’s security vulnerability examination team. It has previously found other flaws on the Apple systems.

“Given the breadth of information stolen, the attackers may nevertheless be able to maintain persistent access to various accounts and services by using the stolen authentication tokens from the keychain, even after they lose access to the device,”.

This isn’t the first time Google have found issues.
