Neuralink, Elon Musks idea that will change the way the human mind works and stop AI from over taking us and causing the actualisation of Skynet, but what is it?
Well in simple terms it is a huge project, which is already well underway internationally, but without the mass media presence which Musk has brought to the table.
The idea to link the human mind to a computer, allowing people with severe medical conditions such as Parkinson’s to control their movements and manipulate machines using their thoughts.
All in all, it sounds amazing, giving those who do not currently have certain capabilities a more rounded life, but as always with Musk he has taken it one step further.
He takes it to the realms of developing “superhuman cognition”, allowing humans to combat artificial intelligence or even Arnold Schwarzenegger on a motor bike.
The UK’s Science Media Centre, put out a press release quoting Prof Andrew Jackson, a professor of neural interfaces at Newcastle University.
“I don’t think there was anything revolutionary in the presentation,” he said.
“But they are working through the engineering challenges of placing multiple electrodes into the brain.
“In terms of their technology, 1,024 channels is not that impressive these days, but the electronics to relay them wirelessly is state-of-the-art, and the robotic implantation is nice.
“The biggest challenge is what you do with all this brain data. The demonstrations were actually quite underwhelming in this regard and didn’t show anything that hasn’t been done before.”
He also asked why peer reviews have not been allowed on the testing that has already been completed.
