Apple might have moved a little closer to creating a 5G handset, having just invested $1 billion in an acquisition for a majority of Intel’s smartphone modem business.
This will increase Apples staff by some 2,200 Intel employees and they will now hold a combined 17,000 wireless technology patents.
So when are we to see the next iPhone 5G, well unfortunately its unlikely to be in the release of the iPhone 11 later this year. Currently, the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR all have 4G LTE with Intel modems something which we are not expecting to change in the iPhone 11.
It’s not until 2020 that we are expecting Apple to really take the plunge, this may result in a mid year flagship handset as Samsung do.
