The new Amazon Astro is a household robot powered by Alexa and able to roam around your home at its own whim.
The robot is also capable of being remote controlled when you are out of the house, or can just roam around aimlessly as a security guard.
The robot will announce to the owner via notification if it senses something out of the ordinary.
Amazon claim it is not just Alexa on wheels, it has a personality of its own as it is able to move and show expressions to make the owner laugh.
Should you ask the Astro to beatbox, it will then bop it’s head and make some expressions while “spitting” bars.
Astro won’t be travelling into areas you don’t want it to either with, “out of bounds” zones, which the robot will not be able to travel to.
The robot can also be set to “do not disturb”. and will allow you to turn off the cameras and microphones like on the Alexa smart home technology.
There will also be a periscope camera that is capable of popping up through the head similar to that of R2D2.
The robot could be coming on sale with a recommended retail price of £740, so pretty pricey for a piece of smart technology, compared to a standard Alexa.
The robot will be hitting shelves in the US later this year, however it will be a limited run to check if there is significant interest in the new technology.
Amazon do expect all homes to have a similar piece of technology to that of the Astro, and there are some benefits to it, especially when leaving the house for a holiday.
