Just a few years ago Blackberry technology was in the hands of US Presidents and most well to do business men or women.
The two big names in handsets were Nokia and Blackberry, before smartphones jumped in to the picture.
They offered days of battery and in return gave the user a truly indestructible handset, unlike the more recent examples from Apple and Samsung.
Blackberry was also coveted with ultra-security, therefore making it a lot safer for the end user.
However, Blackberry, like many other brands of the early noughties, soon could not match the modern-day smartphones and soon lost the fight.
Now a new company, OnwardMobility has obtained some licences to produce new Blackberry phones.
Details are hard to come by at present, but it looks like these new Blackberry’s will be truly ready for the present day with 5G technology and even that much-loved keyboard.
The new handset will also have the same top-level security as we have grown to expect from the original manufacturer.
Blackberry will still own the rights to the brand, it will be OnwardMobility working on behalf of Chinese Foxconn to develop the handset.
”BlackBerry is thrilled OnwardMobility will deliver a BlackBerry 5G smartphone device with physical keyboard leveraging our high standards of trust and security synonymous with our brand,” said John Chen, Executive Chairman and CEO, BlackBerry.
“We are excited that customers will experience the enterprise and government level security and mobile productivity the new BlackBerry 5G smartphone will offer.”
We are expecting to see the new handset in 2021, but no information has been given on the release schedule or countries it will be available in.
