Some big design changes on route with the new iPhone models Leaks have suggested that we will see a single pill shaped notch with the FaceID and Camera inside.
The leaks may not be true, however if they are then we may no longer have a big indent at the top of the iPhone screen.
Supposedly they will be two notches one for the camera and one for the FaceID system, and the pixels between the notches will be turned off to give the impression of one pill shaped area.
It has also been rumored that the notch may vary in size dependent on the content that is being viewed by the user.
A recent patent submitted does give a bit of credence to the rumors, including proposals to separate the phone’s IR light emitter from the primary notch. “The IR light emitter may be placed at a location with less-constrained space, and use the light folding element to project the IR light in a specific
The patent goes on to describe it in more detail. ”This can reduce the overall size of the imaging and sensing components, thus decreasing size of a notch for holding the imaging and sensing component and increasing the display area of the device.”
The Apple event is only a week away now, so the sound of these rumors is getting more and more convincing.
