The new Sony Xperia 1 II no 8K video

The new Sony Xperia 1 II does not have 8K video, however Sony have a reason they chose not to offer it on the handset.

Many big brand handsets these days will have an offering of 8K video, so it seems strange that Sony wouldn’t offer this, despite the Sony cameras being a premium product.

Mitsuya Kishida, president of Sony Mobile recently had a interview with AV Watch in Japan, to discuss the new flagship handset, and of course the lack of 8K was a talking point.

“There is a problem of ‘where to see it”, said Mitsuya Kishida, which is true and at present s a very real issue.

The cost of the required hardware to display the 8K format is at present only for the very fortunate, however is it purposefully limiting the life cycle of the handset to not offer the feature.

Sony uses a mantra of “shooting, sending, and seeing”, and if there’s no way to see the 8K content, there’s no real need to shoot or send it, although Sony has said the Xperia 1 II will be 5G ready.
