It’s finally here. Nokia’s flagship smartphone, built specifically to compete with Apple’s iPhone 8 and Samsung’s Galaxy S8. Whilst Nokia have partnered up with HMD before to release budget and mid-tier smartphones such as the Nokia 3 and the Nokia 6, this is their first venture into the top tier of the smartphone market.
So how does it stack up? Well it goes into battle well-armed with the cutting edge Snapdragon 835 chipset, a stunning high resolution LCD display, and a premium aluminium unibody similar to that of the iPhones.
The 13MP front and rear cameras are an improvement on those found in the iPhone 7 and the Galaxy S7, but the water resistance rating of IP54 gives ground to both rivals which have IP67 and 68 respectively.
Despite offering very similar or improved specifications in a lot of areas, at around £550 the price of the Nokia 8 is considerably lower than that of its rivals.
The days of the Nokia ‘brick’ phones are clearly gone, with the Nokia 8 showcasing a sleek, modern look. 2 types of finish are available, with a choice between the “Polished” mirror finish and the “Satin” matte finish. Two colours are available in each. Polished Blue or Copper, and Satin Blue or Steel.
