Elon Musk, one of the world’s richest and most innovative company owners, has just unveiled the Tesla “Cybertruck”.
The truck was ushered in as the go anywhere do anything vehicle, however at the demonstration, one of the vehicles windows was smashed.
The demonstration was called to show how difficult the trucks windows were to break, however it didn’t quite go swimmingly, and Elon was heard cursing before stating, “Room for improvement”.
Hawthorne, California, was the place the tuck was unveiled, with a stainless steel, angular design much like the DMC DeLorean, from Back to the Future.
“People probably won’t get past the looks of it,” said Jessica Caldwell, from vehicle marketplace Edmunds.
The pickup market is an area which Tesla have yet to delve, however holds significant opportunity as large trucks made up 14.4% of new vehicle sales to October this year.
These vehicles sell on average at $50,000, therefore Tesla have placed their vehicle perfectly as $39,900 with a range of 250 miles.
However, for those who decide to push the boat out, at $69,900 they can have a 500 mile range. Meaning they may have pushed the boat, but they won’t need to push the car.
Pre orders are starting now, despite the truck not expected on the market till late 2021. Musk has been known to miss deadlines though…
However, despite the low cost for the 250 mile truck compares to the average market spend, unfortunately the mishap with the glass will likely overshadow any positives which may have been drawn.
During a segment displaying how the car’s stainless steel exterior, and metal windows, could withstand bullets and sledgehammers the incident occurred.
Tesla’s head of design, Franz von Holzhausen, then lines up to give it his all and bowled a metal ball at the front left window, it smashed. As too did the rear left.
“We threw wrenches, we threw literally the kitchen sink at the glass and it didn’t break. For some reason it broke now… I don’t know why.”
Musk said, however despite the unfortunate occurrence Tesla shares did not plummet following the smash.
