The British government has been warned by the US that using Huawei 5G technology in the UK “would be madness”.
The UK has been presented with new evidence claiming to show security risks, posed by the Chinese firm.
It is claimed that Boris Johnson is being pressured by Donald Trump to consult the decision.
By the end of this month it is expected a decision will be made on whether to allow Huawei to supply “non-core” parts of the UK 5G network.
Deputy National Security Adviser Matt Pottinger alongside a US delegation, met ministers in London on Monday.
A dossier of technical information was handed to the British government, which supposedly challenges our own securities information.
Do Huawei pose risks to UK national security?
The US has so far refused to divulge upon what is contained in the dossier.
Last year the US first announced ban on the Chinese company, then they were back.
MI5 have said they have no concerns over the use of Huawei technology in our 5G network with the current scope of usage.
A Huawei spokesperson has gone on to defend Huawei, by saying, “We are a private company which has supplied 3G, 4G and broadband equipment to the UK’s telecoms companies for 15 years. British experts are clear our technology does not pose a security risk.”
However, Conservative MP Bob Seely said, “to all intents and purposes is part of the Chinese state” and a deal with the tech giant would allow Beijing to access the UK’s network.
Conservative MP Bob Seely has also called upon the Foreign Affairs Committee to open a investigation into the Huawei company and their suitability to become a part of the UK’s 5G network.
However, a government spokesperson has said that, “The government continues to consider its position on high risk vendors and a decision will be made in due course.” Meaning we may have to wait a couple of months for the outcome.
