A massive outage of internet and TV for customers of Virgin Media in Scotland this afternoon. Also stated to be affecting some areas in the rest of the UK.
So with 5G just around the corner, with speeds out performing even Super fast fiber broadband. Are the days of relying on your Wi-Fi router at an end?
Sure, it’s a known thing among anyone who works with networks or routers that it’s almost always better to connect to the router via cable, rather than the Wi-Fi. It’s simply a quicker more steady connection. But with 5G touted to be able to reach over 1 Gb a second, and being a truly wireless experience. Will we really need home routers anymore?
Now getting your internet from the 5G network will not necessarily stop the pain of service provider faults. Just today, EE has had an outage across part of the UK.
But just think about it. The days of needing to reboot your router because it’s doing that weird flashy light thing again will be gone. All your games, Netflix, social media, all beamed straight to receivers in your phone or TV. With speeds faster than any you have experienced with ‘Plumbed in’ connections before.
Sounds promising to me.
