Vodafone now has deals in place with BT Openreach and CityFibre that are claimed to be making it the biggest provider of ultra-fast broadband.
Vodafone unlike some of it’s competition, does not own fixed lines, they actually lease these from other providers.
However, following this new deal access to ultra-fast broadband will be accessible through the Vodafone network to 8 million UK residents by early next year.
CityFibre first nurtured the relationship with Vodafone in 2017, back then the deal was worth around £500 million.
They are the largest company outside of the common household names, to have laid fibre in the past few years.
This new deal will allow CityFibre to reach their goal of offering high-speed internet to 285 cities in the UK by 2025.
“A couple of years back we were new to broadband but by spring we will have the widest fibre-to-the-premises footprint in the UK,” Ahmed Essam, chief executive of Vodafone UK, told the Financial Times.
Going on to explain the expansion vision for Vodafone further, it was explained that not owning the fixed line has allowed Vodafone to expand faster than otherwise would have been possible.
Hopefully these changes will affect the prices of everyone’s high speed internet, by making the market more competitive and reducing costs for consumers.
