Changes are coming in that will make it more difficult for people to track AirTags that do not belong to them.
Up till now there has been numerous reports of misuse of the tags, whereby people attach them to a victims vehicle or on their person without their knowledge.
Apple has explained that the changes have been made in order to allow suspicious tags to be more easily found by alerting users to unknown AirTags travelling with them.
The size of the Apple devices makes hiding them on a person very easy as them are so small and slender.
Hence users when setting up their AirTags will now be given a warning, surrounding misuse of the Tags.
“Unwanted tracking” alerts can now be received by users of the application, both Apple and Android.
Also iPhone 11, iPhone 12, and iPhone 13 devices can then use “precision finding” to allow them to locate the unwanted Tag.
IOS users also have the capability to allow the AirTag to play a sound to assist them in locating the Tag, this was previously only capable to be owner of the AirTag.
Apple are also looking to share additional resources to users and non-owners on the Apple devices to help in assisting to notice when a AirTag is being misused.
Apple AirTage are relatively new and as such the company is only just being made aware of what a useful tool they can be in the wrong hands.
With the ability of locating anything down to 0.1 feet there are many avenues that the device could be misused.
