Google have trumped Apple in the race for AR (Augmented Reality) maps.
Guiding users to their destination by superimposing arrows and information over real-world footage from their phone’s camera.
Last week we shared the story on Apples patent which looked at using AR inside their mapping tool. But, it seems they were late to the pass as Google have been working on this feature for months, and have already released a beta.
There are differences though, most poignant being that Googles tool is for on foot and Apple had driving in mind.
To use this feature in Google simple select your “Walkable” destination, then “Live View”, and the application will take you on a virtual tour of the new feature.
The concept as we have said before is a great idea, as it can be so difficult to place yourself from a birds eye view in certain circumstances. It just seems that Google have got their first rolling it out this week to limited devices.
