Toyota has finally announced the fleet of the future in 15 new electric vehicles due to be released in 2025, much to the relief of UK customers.
Toyota has long been a pioneer in the electric vehicle market, proving for others, like Tesla, that alternate power trains were effective and could be popular.
They unveiled a new concept at the Shanghai Motor show, the BZ4X, an SUV which will be the same chassis as used for others in the fleet.
They aren’t just stopping at electric though, and are also looking into hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, which could still give us the sound of good old-fashioned ICE.
Toyota will be working with Subaru on some of these concepts meaning we may see some more interesting cars in the fleet, judging from the Toyota GT-86.
The BZ4X will be powered on all wheels and is expected to be on global forecourts by 2022, it is likely Subaru will use the same chassis for further vehicles later on.
It does seem strange that Toyota are so late to the market with an electric fleet, considering the Prius was released in 199, however there are rumours that the company was not convinced that EV’s were the future.
This could also explain the continued support of the hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, also the fact the hybrids have sold over 17 million models will have given them some confidence.
