Volvo going all electric by 2030, the most recent in the international car manufacturers to join in the green movement following the UK announcement.
Not only with combustion engines be phased out, but so too will the hybrid vehicles.
The race to go green has been throughout car manufacturers over the past few months with both Ford and Jaguar already pledging.
The UK has already placed a ban on combustion consumer vehicles from 2030, which has forced the hand of some manufacturers.
Volvo’s chief technology officer, Henrik Green, said “There is no long-term future for cars with an internal combustion engine.”
Volvo has also started to push sales and servicing online, this is yet to affect staff, however, could it at some point have this effect.
Despite confirming they will not rely on combustion from fossil fuels, Volvo has shown little interest in hydrogen as an alternative.
They claim this is because there will be little demand from customers for such a powertrain, this does seem to meet with all industry opinions.
It is true that the capture and storage of Hydrogen will require extensive further research, however it has also been proven that they can be refuelled much like a combustion engine, rather than having to wait for a charger.
Volvo will be working with Chinese Geely going forward in the development of the components for their future fleet, however a merger is no longer on the horizon.
