5G has been all over the headlines in the past few months, partially due to the ramifications it may have on our health, but also because its now available.
This does not mean there is any slowing down, if anything it’s speeding up, not only the download speeds, but also the speed the infrastructure is going up and the phones that will be able to support it.
Xiaomi has now promised the launch of over 10 5G ready handsets in 2020, information from Reuters is that Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun made the announcement at the World Internet Conference in China.
Xiaomi seem to be leading the way at the moment with future tech, including their wrap around screen and solar powered handsets.
Lei has said the reason for this huge investment in 5G tech is due to the Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro hitting the market with such ferocity in china, Lei said the demand had far exceeded expectations.
The new range of 5G handsets are going to span the price points, from flagship to budget.
“People in the industry fear that next year 4G models won’t sell, this is a step you have no choice but to take,” Lei said. “So we hope that operators can speed up their expansion of 5G base stations.”
Samsung have done their best to meet peoples expectations of a 5G ready phone with the majority of their flagship handsets being retrofitted to support.
Whereas both Google and Apple have released their 2019 handsets with no 5G in sight.
