Huawei banned from the UK 2027

From the year 2027 Huawei will be banned from the UK 5G network among other areas of the countries infrastructure.

The networks currently using Huawei technology are BT/EE mobile network featuring Huawei in the 4G and 5G network.

However, the company has confirmed this will be removed before the deadline and plans are to replace Huawei by 2023.

Most other networks also use some part of Huawei technology in some of their systems, therefore this ban is going to require some reconstruction of existing hardware.

  • EE to provide 2G, 4G and 5G
  • Vodafone to provide 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G
  • Three to provide 4G and 5G
  • O2 to provide 5G

We were warned about Huawei having a part to play in the UK infrastructure when the US banned all Huawei infrastructure and even trade, however at the time these facts were put to one side.

A final decision had been made on Huawei in UK 5G back in January and that was the go ahead or so we thought.

Huawei currently provides broadband equipment to BT’s Openreach division, which owns the infrastructure used by other internet service providers, Plusnet, Sky and TalkTalk.
