Huawei has taken the title of the biggest smartphone vendor in the world for the first time ever according to estimates from Canalys analysts.
Samsung shipped 53.7 million devices in the second quarter of 2020, however Huawei surpassed that with a staggering 55.8 million units.
China lifted lockdown restrictions a lot sooner than other countries, which seems ot have ad a positive effect on the output.
However, this has also led to secondary spikes, something, which other countries are starting to see now.
Something quite remarkable about the uplift from the Huawei company is the fact the Western world has almost cut it out entirely.
Following legal action in the US and restrictions put in place across other nations including the UK.
The Huawei handsets are not even authorised to use the Android operating system as of earlier this year.
The huge leap in sales is not due entirely to the Western market as the overseas shipment have depleted 27%, however sales in China equate for more than 70% of the smartphones in the country.
“This is a remarkable result that few people would have predicted a year ago,” said analyst Ben Stanton from Canalys.
“If it wasn’t for Covid-19, it wouldn’t have happened,” Mr Stanton said. “Huawei has taken full advantage of the Chinese economic recovery to reignite its smartphone business.”
